We wrote about Hilton Honors Aspire resort credit of $250 applicable to dining purchases going live on 06/01/2020 here. So, if you have not used your Hilton resort credit for the current year from now to 08/31/2020 is the best time to use your Hilton Honor's aspire card for the any dining purchase. The important point was that you can use that credit towards takeout / delivery service providers such as Grubhub, UberEats. DoorDash etc. This allows for potentially using these delivery service with any promotion's they present along with any points, cashback earning potential through various cashback sites or hotel programs.

So, below are the few things you can do to maximize your points/cashback for the reimbursed $250 dining credit on your Hilton Honors Aspire card (If you have not already used your resort credit!!).
  • Add your Hilton Aspire credit card to dining programs such as American Airlines Dining, Alaska Airlines Dining etc.
  • Add your Hilton Aspire credit card as default for purchase at Grubhub, UberEats (If new use code: eats-ubergotraveller ), DoorDash etc.
  • Use the cashback site for UberEats or linked programs for earning points such as IHG for Grubhub or  Choice privilege points / Club Carlson points with delivery.com.
  • Finally do check out of there are any special promotion or trial sign up which would reduce the delivery fee or provide discount on delivery/pick up.
  • Any Amex Dining Offer which would provide cashback or Hilton Honors points (Do remember that any Amex cashback offer here may not stack with $250 credit)

Due to COVID-19 situation lot of travel related credit card's with high annual fees are innovating and throwing in temporary statement credit redemption options. Hilton Aspire credit card comes with $250 resort credit each card member year for purchases at participating Hilton Resorts. They are making good on those credits by allowing to redeem them against restaurant charges for a short window from June 1st to Aug 31st 2020.

Hilton Aspire is a great card with benefits worth its high fees of $450 if you are travel geek. Having an alternate option to redeem those $250 in resort credit's for restaurant purchases (including Grubhub / Seamless, UberEats etc) makes the credit card compelling and the one which you should hold on or can apply for here. Also the free annual weekend night which can be used at any property except few here is a great value.

Below is the snapshot of the modified benefits of the card as per American Express. Also the terms are below for completeness.

As you can see you already earn 12 Hilton Honor Points at U.S. Supermarkets as modified benefit for time being. In addition you might notice additional point earning offers such as below on your "Amex Offers" which would make it useful card even in time of No travel.

If you stay in the USA and can sign up for credit cards then the one card you should have in your wallet is the American Express Hilton Card. American Express has two variants of the card below:
  • Hilton HHonors Card with no annual fee
  • Hilton HHonors Surpass card with $75 annual fee
If you do not have Hilton HHonors card then it is better off to start with the $75 annual fee version as apart from better benefits it also has higher sign up bonus such as the current 100k Hilton Honors point for $3k spend in 3 months and a free weekend night earned after first anniversary of the card membership.

After first anniversary of the Hilton HHonors Surpass card once you receive the free weekend night certificate you can downgrade the card to No annual fee Hilton HHonors card.

The Deal:
  1. After few months of the downgrade to No annual fee card you can check for the upgrade eligibility at this link. At the time of this writing you can get 100k HHonors bonus points after spending $3k in 3 months for the Upgrade from No annual fee card (No weekend certificate though). The bonus amount varies depending on the publicly available offer for the sign up of the card but usually there is some HHonors bonus points if you are eligible for the upgrade. Also since it is a upgrade you do not get hit by the hard credit pull as well as your account open date retains to the original opening date of your card.
  2. Once the spend is met and you receive the HHonors bonus for upgrade you can downgrade the card back to No annual fee card. You do get partial refund of the fees and you are back again in the queue waiting to become eligible for upgrade again.
  3. Rinse and repeat and you will have nice stash of Hilton HHonors points without any new credit inquiry.

Disclosure: Miles And Money could earn referral bonus for sign up through some of the links above. Some of the links may or may not be publicly available links.

DAILY GETAWAY 2014 RETURNS, BUT..

5/10/2014

The Daily Getaways has returned and will be starting on May 19th, 2014. It used to have quite a few lucrative deals, but seems due to the seasons of devaluation it has lost its sheen. The first and second week of deals are announced and it does not sound interesting.
Week 0 -- May 19th to May 23rd:
  • Buying Wyndham Points from $5.4 for 1000 points (With 10% Amex Card Discount) to $6 for 1000 points without Amex card. Wyndham used to be great for converting points to miles, but with their devaluation they now convert 6000 points to 1200 miles and thus no longer an interesting deal.
  • Hertz Car Rental for standard or premium vehicles. Does not sound to be great deal with points for 1 week rental costing $280 (Without 10% Amex Discount).
  • Choice Rewards Points for as low as $3.71 for 1000 points (With 10% Amex Discount). These are still good packages and similar to last year deal. You should definitely give this a consideration If you have plans on staying in Europe in Shoulder or off-peak season as the rooms going for ~$150 can be had for only 8000 points. The best deal is either the 32k points package or the 40k points package.
  • Alamo $50 car rental certificate for $25. This is same as last year deal and I have written about this in the past with its pro's and cons, so definitely consider this if it suits your needs.
  • Hilton Honors Points from $4.95 for 1000 points (With 10% Amex Card Discount). After last year's massive devaluation the value of Hilton Honors points is no longer the same. You could still consider it if you have definite plans at staying at few hotels which still offer some bargains such as the standard room at Double Tree Kuala Lumpur, MY for 10,000 points. You might want to refer my past post on this to understand what I am talking about.

Week 1 -- May 26th to May 30th:
  • Priority Club Points as low as $5.67 per 1000 points (With 10% Amex Card Discount). Since you can easily buy Priority Club Points for $7 per 1000 points I would not bother with this unless there is specific redemption you are looking for.
  • Other deals include stay at Caesars Palace, CityPass for various citieis, Stay at Diamond Resorts and Visiting SeaWorld and Busch Gardens which I do not find a great deal to talk about.
