JetBlue recently launched an awesome 100k JetBlue points credit card offer. The offer earns 50,000 points after spending $1,000 on purchases and paying $99 annual fee within the first 90 days after the approval and earns additional 50,000 points after spending total of $6,000 on purchases within the first 12 months. The card also comes with noteworthy perks some of which are listed below:
One of the nice things about JetBlue points is they do not expire and since JetBlue program is revenue based you get ~1.4 cent/point value when redeeming for Blue Fare (The downside is that JetBlue does not allow to redeem points for Blue Basic fare which might ideally give even more value!!). JetBlue serves 90+ destinations with heavy presence on East coast and small presence on the West coast. You can find all the destinations in this route map.
So, if you live in one of the cities which JetBlue serves then the 100k points offer combined with other perks of the card is an amazing offer which you should definitely go for!! Do note that the JetBlue credit card is issued by Barclay's Bank which is not an easy bank to get an approval from if you have few recent inquiries. Due to spread of Coronavirus named COVID-19 majority of airlines in the U.S.A. are now offering free cancellation (in some cases free change of dates). There is a catch though for all of them where the refund will be provided as a credit for the future ticket (again the length of validity of that credit varies). The policy are different for different airlines in regards to when the tickets were booked and the flight date till which the policy would be applicable.
The good news is that if you have any travel plans within the eligible dates then the time is to book NOW!! Since you are eligible to cancel without any reason you can be assured that if your plans change you will not lose your flight money completely (although it would be tied to particular airline only). The policy also applies to "basic economy" fares which are the most restrictive otherwise. That being said the best deal out there is with JetBlue Airways as there policy applies equally to both revenue fares purchased as well as Award Tickets. So below are the links for major U.S. Airlines regarding their change/cancellation policy. JetBlue Airways: Policy applies to both revenue fare as well as Award Tickets. The refund will be provided in "JetBlue travel bank" credit for revenue ticket and taxes+fees on award tickets. The credit expires 1 year from initial issue date. Alaska Airlines: Policy applies to revenue fare only. The refund will be provided in "Alaska Wallet" which is valid for travel till 28th Feb 2021. American Airlines: Policy applies to revenue fare only and only "changes" are allowed. Also there are few "gotcha" in terms of the valid dates of booking and travel which you need to be aware of. Delta Airlines: Policy applies to revenue fare only and only "changes" are allowed. Both domestic and international tickets can be changes without paying change fees when booked within applicable dates. United Airlines: Policy applies to revenue fare only and both changes and cancellations are allowed. For cancelled tickets the original ticket value will be retained for future travel up to 12 months from the original ticket issue date. Also this applies only to tickets purchase within applicable dates. So, if you have any travel plans within the applicable booking cancellations dates now is the best time to book it. JetBlue Airways has recently issued notice that they will be waiving change/cancellation fee's for ticket's booked between 02/27/2020 till 03/11/2020 for travel booked till 06/01/2020 in light of Corona Virus. The value of the ticket if changed/cancelled will be provided as travel credit in JetBlue Travel Bank valid of 1 year from the date of issuance of credit. This is a good news at several levels because:
Maximizing the policy:
Of course all of the above assumes that JetBlue has service to your closest airport and it flies to the destination you are planning to visit before June 1st, 2020. But just something useful if you do have any domestic travel plans!! Disclaimer: Some of the links used in the post may be referral links and earn referral to this site. As per wikipedia JetBlue is the 6th largest airline in the United States. Although a low cost carrier it has wider seat pitch and lot of free entertainment on-board which differentiates it from other big carriers. One more interesting aspect of JetBlue is the best fare guarantee which is different than the big U.S. carriers. While not as good as Alaska Airlines price guarantee it still provides some protection and benefits. So what exactly is JetBlue best fare guarantee? JetBlue like other airlines provides full refund if you cancel within 24 hours of purchase. But apart from that as per the Best fare guarantee description here JetBlue provides $100 in JetBlue credit to be used for next flight purchase and to be used within 1 year from the original ticket purchase date if you find lower fare any where else for the same ticket which was purchased on jetblue.com on the same day of purchase (read complete terms here). The caveat here is that you need to call in the customer support to exercise this guarantee which might be a bummer for some folks. The other less often talk about policy is the JetBlue "Honoring the lower fare policy". The wording of this policy says this is for "travel agents" which gives certain wiggle room for the JetBlue agents to not honor it for tickets booked by customers directly but otherwise it provides a 14 day guarantee. Ideally you could always claim to be a travel agent booking the ticket for yourself:-). As per the policy if Jetblue fare drops below the original purchase price within 14 days or less of original purchase date you would get the difference in fare as a JetBlue credit for future use. There is no fee assessed for honoring the lower fare within 14 days of purchase which other wise would cost you $75. Again you need to call JetBlue to exercise this guarantee but should be worth your time if there a savings to be had. So the next time you see the price drop for your JetBlue flight and it's been 14 days or less since you purchased your JetBlue itinerary do not forget to contact JetBlue and get your credit for future travel purchases on JetBlue.
