DAILY GETAWAYS START ON 03/23

The Daily Getaways are starting tomorrow with "Alamo Car Rental Certificate" going on sale on 03/23/2015. You can see weekly deals at this link. There are some interesting deals available but do note that this year American Express is no longer one of the major sponsor and thus NO 10% discount for using your American Express card for purchasing the daily getaways deal. The deal starts at 1 p.m. EST time and some of the good deals will sell out in minutes. Below is the brief on first week deal which looks interesting to me!

Week 1 Deals

Alamo Car Rental Certificate - $25 for $50 value - 03/23

• $25 for $50 value of car rental with Alamo. Maximum quantity per purchase is limited to 3. And you can apply max 3 certificate per rental.
• Certificate never expires. Thus a great value even if you do not have any immediate need.
• Value can only be applied to the cost of rental and not to taxes, fees and additional items. Un-used value of certificate gets forfeited. So is you have car rental that costs $38 (without taxes, fees and protection)  and if you use the certificate, you will have to forfeit the $12 remaining value remaining.
• From the terms & conditions it says you need to use the "Coupon Code" and "Contract ID" provided in the certificate, but from my experience you could use a the "Coupon Code" on the certificate for $50 off your rental cost with a different "Contact ID" for earning bonus miles/points in various airlines/hotel programs. Also can you earn Cashback by making the reservation through Cashback sites.

Intercontinental Hotels Group point purchase - 0.565 cent/point to 0.6 cent/point value - 03/24

• There are various packages available for point purchasing with the cost ranging from 0.565 cent/point to 0.6 cent/point.
  
• The IHG points never expires but does devalue from time to time. So, buy them only if you have specific and immediate use for them, or else there are tricks to buy them at 0.7 cent/point all year long. 

Club Carlson points purchase - 0.45 cent/point value - 03/25

• If you are looking to stay at one of the expensive Club Carlson properties and have its co-brand US bank credit card in the USA buying points would be a good use as for 2+ night stay you get 2nd night free on the award redemption.
• Club Carlson does have quite lucrative earning of points for revenue stay and have some good quarterly promotions to earn more bonus points. So it might not be a great deal to purchase points at 0.45 cent/point unless you really have stay planned for it.

Hilton HHonors points purchase - 0.5 cent/point value - 03/27

• Hilton HHonors points use to be great before the major devaluation which happened in early 2014. There are still quite a few properties where can you still get good value for your points but getting a value better than 1 cent/point is quite difficult. Also the points expire if there is no earning/redemption activity on your account within 12 months of acquiring the points. So, a good value only if you have specific use in mind.

There are some good deals to be have in future weeks as well, such as for 2nd week we have Avis One-day Car Rental certificate for $30,  Hyatt Points for ~1.08 cent/point and Choice Privilege Points for ~0.4 cent/point.
